Mexico and its paradisiacal beaches
Mexico is a destination known for its offer of a sun-drenched change of scenery. The country has no fewer than 10 000 km of coastline, more than enough to choose from. Air France offers several flights a day to one of Mexico's most famous bathing resorts: Cancun with its delightful white sand beaches. Cancun is located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, in the Yucatan Peninsula, typical of the country's original inhabitants, the Mayas.
Further south, you can also discover the Playa Del Carmen and Tulum beaches. Another famous sun-drenched destination in Mexico is Acapulco, in the south-west of the country. Air France also offers flights to this grandiose and renowned port city on the Pacific coast. In the north, don't miss the beaches and the festive atmosphere of the famous city of Veracruz.
Mexico and its archaeological sites
The Aztec and Mayan cultures are visible throughout Mexico and the numerous archaeological sites are fascinating. If you visit the Yucatan Peninsula, don't miss the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza: grandiose and mysterious, it is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. In the neighbouring state of Quintana Roo, discover the Mayan ruins of Tulum, a breath-taking site overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Another unmissable city is Teotihuacán 40 km north of Mexico City. It is a huge tourist site and one of the most visited in Mexico, a place where you can admire and climb the gigantic Central American pyramids.
Finally if you visit the south of the country, in the state of Oaxaca, don't miss the Monte Alban, a city built on the mountain peak, and very easy to reach by road.
Mexico and Mexico City, its unmissable capital
Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, is located at an altitude of 2 400 metres and has the largest population of any city in the country. Air France offers several flights each week to Mexico. Set out to discover the charming colonial quarters such as Coyoacan and San Angel. These are lively and spacious quarters where you can enjoy inexpensive local specialities. One of Mexico's strengths is that lodging and meals are available at very reasonable prices. Another major attraction of Mexico City is the capital's most beautiful avenue, the Avenida Paseo de la Reforma. Twelve kilometres long, it crosses the most modern quarters of the Mexican capital and in particular the Torre Mayor, the tallest skyscraper in Latin America. You will also discover the immense Chapultepec park, a breath of fresh air in the city. Finally, visit the famous anthropology museum, Mexico's largest museum.
